The story of Mitek
About Us
Like Many Great Businesses, MiTek Started With An Idea
MiTek’s remarkable journey began five decades ago, built upon Loyd Ivey’s relentless pursuit of excellence. Ivey started building loudspeakers and subwoofers in a rural garage outside Chicago, selling them to local college students at Northwestern University from the trunk of his car. It was a business of one, fueled by his drive and passion for good quality sound. He quickly made a name for himself, growing Ivey Electronics into a locally renowned brand.
From Garage to Global
What started as a one man business, evolved into an internationally recognized brand. Buoyed by numerous industry innovations, firsts, and patents as well as unforgettable pop-culture placements like “Pimp My Ride,” MiTek’s impact reached far beyond awards and recognition. An entrepreneur through and through, Ivey built his businesses both organically and through strategic acquisition. Many of the acquired brands were consolidated into and added to the success of the well-known commercial and consumer audio brands -AtlasIED and MTX, the two largest entities that fall under the MiTek umbrella.
MiTek’s experience in designing, manufacturing, and selling audio products has helped the company stay relevant in an industry that is constantly evolving through technology. From automotive and marine to schools and airports, MiTek leverages experience and values talent which allows the company to continue to develop the best and most reliable audio solutions in the world.
Building a family legacy
Johnathan Ivey, President of MiTek Corporation and Loyd’s son, said of his father, “Innovation was at the heart of Loyd’s legacy. He pushed boundaries, leading MiTek, AtlasIED, and MTX to develop groundbreaking products and solutions that set industry standards. Although Loyd was from humble beginnings, his passion for pushing the envelope and delivering unparalleled quality has been the cornerstone of our businesses’ and family success.”
Loyd’s passion remains embedded in our company’s DNA. We find strength in his enduring legacy, as his son, Johnathan Ivey, leads the company forward, ensuring that the spark of innovation and dedication Loyd ignited continues to light our path.
