The Junior Mechanical Engineer – OEM is responsible for all mechanical parts and processes in the development for OEM customers. They are responsible for interacting directly with internal team members, and MiTek Vendors and occasionally OEM customers. They take direction from the Senior Engineering staff. Familiarity with Automotive APQP is desired for this position.
The Junior Mechanical Engineer has a hands-on approach in building and testing prototypes as well as guiding final production through manufacturing facilities (local and abroad). Also, they provide written final specifications for sales and marketing distribution as well as initial instructions and diagrams for customer use. They perform a wide variety of tasks to support the research and development department including regular product troubleshooting and investigation.
Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals; is familiar with concepts, practices, and procedures within OEM product hardware design. Perform limited FEA analysis to predict the performance of OEM Electronic Products.
Review or create project instructions, specifications, technical drawings, schematics, computer-generated reports, and blueprints to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, and test the nature of technical problems such as redesign under the guidance from a Senior Engineer.
Perform DEFMA studies to ensure solid, robust designs. This will be done internally or with the direct OEM customers.
Design, fabricate and assemble new or modified mechanical components for products found in the consumer audio industry. Calculate required capacities for equipment of proposed system to obtain specified performance and submit data to engineering personnel for approval.
Evaluate tool drawing designs by measuring drawing dimensions and comparing with original specifications form and function using engineering skills. Investigate equipment failures and difficulties in diagnosing faulty operation and making recommendations.
Set-up and conduct tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to investigate proposals for improving product performance. Analyze test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives, and modify or adjust equipment to meet specifications.
Discuss changes in design and method of manufacture and assembly, and drafting techniques and procedures with Partners and coordinate corrections. Confer with technicians and submit reports of test results to the Engineering Department and recommend design or material changes.
Research and analyze design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and requirements of designs. Specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design, performance specifications, and ISO.
Assist drafters in developing the structural design of products using drafting tools or computer-assisted design (CAD) or drafting equipment and software.
Oversee installation, operation, maintenance, and repair to ensure that machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications to ensure a quality product is produced.
Develop, coordinate, and monitor all aspects of production, including selection of manufacturing methods, fabrication, and operation of product designs.
Know how to read and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) as needed on tooling and part drawings.
Perform necessary mechanical testing on prototypes.
Estimate costs and submit bids for engineering, construction, or projects.
Generate detailed request for quotes (RFQ’s) for preliminary project costing.
Perform personnel functions such as supervision of production workers, technicians, or evaluation processes.
Study industrial processes to determine where and how the application of equipment can be made.
Write performance requirements for product development or engineering projects.
Design test controls and develop procedures for testing products.
3D scan surfaces for vehicle fitment engineering. This includes creating, importing, and editing scan data into the appropriate software required.
Bachelo’rs Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent Experience.
2+ years of mechanical design/engineering experience in relevant field.
· Proficient with Microsoft Windows and Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
· Proficient with PLM software is preferred
· Proficient with Solidworks (CSWA and CSWPA, certifications recommended).
· Proficient with Solidworks Simulation is preferred. Proficiency in other simulation packages may apply.
· Intermediate understanding of 3D scanner and related software for surface creation.
· Experience with APQP design environment desired.
· Experience with manufacturing processes related to plastics and metal fabrication.
· Preferably experience with toolings for sheet-metal, extrusions, wood fabrication, injection molding, die casting, blow molding, and roto-molding.
· Experience with electronic wire harnesses and connectors desired.
· Able to apply GD&T to drawings.
· Proven track record of delivering results.
· Excellent project management skills.
· Comfortable with multiple and simultaneous responsibilities.
· Manufacturing environment, engineering, and product development experience.
· Due to the amount of written communication, clear writing skills must be demonstrated.
· Able to obtain or have a passport for international travel.
