Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00am to 4:00pm are core business hours. Possible remote 1-2 days week, after minimum 90 training period.                                                                                          


The Buyer/Planner will organize and execute their assigned commodities within the Material Planning department. Will monitor and improve key supplier relationships, strive for continuous improvement within MiTek and will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining inventory control processes, ensuring security and accountability of inventory, documenting transactions, and assisting with inventory systems to maximize turn ratios.

  • The ideal candidate will have relatable experience in common sheet metal finishes, stainless, perforated and coil  steel. hard tooled cast components, fabrication.
  • Experience in planning and shop scheduling.

Essential Functions

  • Implement sourcing strategies to support MiTek’s goals and objectives, providing MiTek competitive advantage in the areas of materials, supplies, products, and services with a focus on raw materials acquisition.
  • Develop and maintain mutually beneficial long-term partnerships with suppliers to foster feedback and continuous improvement.
  • Evaluate suppliers, cost, quality, and delivery performance then recommend areas for improvement.
  • Understand, track, and forecast the key cost drivers and market factors for assigned commodities.
  • Develop sourcing strategies to control MiTek’s purchased material costs and to assure an adequate source of supply.
  • Provide management with updates and required information. 


Essential Tasks

  • Analyze reports and expedites production of work orders. 
  • Willingness and ability to learn strategic purchasing and scheduling skills, MRP, and vendors.
  • Analyze and execute Action reports with the assistance of Purchasing Supervisor.

Core Position Qualities

  • Expertise in obtaining raw materials in a manufacturing environment is a plus, specifically sheet metals, various types and grades, perforated and coiled steel as well as aluminum/zinc castings, fabrication.
  • Experience in import process, hands on familiarity with required documents and procedures a plus.      
  • Experience or familiarity in planning and shop scheduling also preferred
  • Autonomy - Ability to work independently and achieve the desired result with minimal supervision or direction.


High School or equivalent, some college or certifications in Materials Planning a plus, CPIM or similar


One to two years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment 


Computer Skills

  • Intermediate understanding with all MS Office Software (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Ability to learn MiTek’s internal systems and other programs as needed.

Other Requirements

  • Knowledge of MRP buying and scheduling systems
  • Knowledge of quality requirements and all planning functions
  • Knowledge of bills of materials and purchase orders
  • Ability to compile data and prepare written reports
  • Ability to manage inventory movement
  • Ability to type 45 WPM

Work Environment

Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
